School Closing Assignments:
Posted by Rachel Summy on 3/16/2020During this time of uncertainty and panic, please reflect on what we have learned in Sociology this year.
Sources of social change. You have been witnessing it everywhere. Please keep a daily journal while we are quarantined, documenting anything you see or hear (news, shopping, family, home, travel). When we get back to school, I will be collecting it for credit.
Also, I need you to complete one more project at home...
1. Purchase vegetable seeds, vegetable plants, or ask a relative or neighbor if they have extra seeds for your project.
2. It will be up to you and your guardians to decide where to plant. THink about victory gardens...this could be a potted plant, you can plant in a flower bed, or small spot in your yard. For those of you who garden each year, this won't be an issue.
3. Now is the perfect time for planing, and your seedlings will have plenty of warm weather to grow.
4. Research. You need to know how to take care of your plant. THis includes protecting it from animals, giving it water and fertilizer, etc...
5. Document. You can keep a journal or chart documenting how well your veggies are doing. You also need to take a selfie of you with your garden/vegetable plant once a week and send it to me through email. Rachel.summy@sccboe.org
6. When we all get back to school, I will collect your data for credit.
I want to remind all of you what I've taught you in my courses, and how people in our world have survived in extremely trying times. You can feed yourself and it is a great life-skill to have. Research and ask relatives and friends for advice and help. And...have fun while doing so. This will give you great confidence if you have never done anything like this before.
Stay safe and healthy!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Summy
