• Reading Homework - Week of 4/22:

    • This week students will have a Spelling/Word Work Test on Thurs., 4/25. Words are on the back on the study guide handed out last week.
    • We will start Unit 8 Native American Indians.

    Reading Homework - Week of 4/15:

    • The Final Test on Tuck Everlasting will be this Thurs., 4/18. It will cover chapters 20-the Epilogue, vocabulary, and it will have a "Cold Read" section where students will read a passage and answer comprehension questions. This will act as our "End of Unit" Test and will be for a Gold grade.
    • Students will take the End of Unit Grammar and Morphology sections of the test on Wed., 4/17. This too will be their last Gold grade for language. This will cover subject/linking verb agreement in the past tense, prepositions, prepositional phrases, correlative conjunctions, the prefix im- and in-, and the root word serv. We will be doing practice pages (PP) in the back of the Reading Activity Book to review for this test. Students may use those pages to study at home.

    Reading Homework - Week of 4/8:

    • ACAP Testing continues this week.
    • There are no tests this week due to ACAP testing. We will finish reading Tuck Everlasting. The final test on Tuck Everlasting will be 4/18 and will cover chapters 20-the Epilogue, vocabulary, and the focus skill author's purpose and perspective.
    • The next Spelling/Word Work Test will be 4/26.

    Reading Homework - Week of 4/1:

    • There will be no formal homework/tests this week or next week during ACAP testing. We will finish reading Tuck Everlasting. The final test on Tuck Everlasting will be 4/18 and will cover chapters 20-the Epilogue, vocabulary, and the focus skill author's purpose and perspective.
    • The next Spelling/Word Work Test will be 4/26.

    • The third test on Tuck Everlasting will be this Wed., 3/20. It will cover comprehension from Chapters 15-19, the focus skill author's purpose and perspective, and vocabulary from the study guide. We will finish Tuck Everlasting after Spring Break.
    • There will be NO Spelling/Work Work Test this week.

    • Our first test on Tuck Everlasting Prologue - Ch. 6 will be Wed., 2/21. This test will cover comprehension questions from the Prologue - Ch. 6, vocabulary, and our focus skill characters, character traits, setting, and plot. Students should have the study guide in their red Reading Folder.
    • We have a Spelling/Word Work Test on Fri., 2/23.

    Reading Homework - Week of 2/12/24:

    • We have started our novel study Tuck Everlasting. Students are loving it so far! There will be a test covering comprehension from Ch. 1-6, vocabulary, and our focus skill Characters, Character Traits, Setting, and Plot on Wed., 2/21. Students should have a study guide in their red Reading Folder.
    • We have a "Cold Read" Test this Fri., 2/16.
    • Our next Spelling/Word Work Test will be on Fri. 2/23.

    Reading Homework - Week of 2/5/24:

    • There will be a Spelling/Word Work Test on Fri., 2/9. Students should have the list in their red Reading Folder.
    • We have finished The Adventures of Don Quixote. We will be reviewing all skills Monday. There will be an End of Unit Gold Test Tues., 2/6 and Wed., 2/7.
    • On Thursday we will be starting a novel study. We will be reading Tuck Everlasting. The students are really excited about starting this novel study!

    Reading Homework - Week of 1/29/24:

    • There will be no Spelling/Word Work Test this week. The next test will be Fri., 2/9.
    • I have decided to wait and do our persuasive essay using our novel study we have coming up. There will be no persuasive essay for this unit.
    • We will be finishing up The Adventures of Don Quixote this week. There will be an End of Unit Gold Test Feb. 6th and 7th.

    Reading Homework - Week of 1/22/24:

    • There will be a Spelling/Word Work Test on Fri., 1/26.
    • Students will be finishing the rough draft of their Persuasive Essays this week. Please review these rough drafts and provide feedback/edits. We will publish the final essay next week. This is for a gold grade.
    • We will be finishing up The Adventures of Don Quixote next week. There will be an End of Unit Gold Test tentatively Feb. 6th and 7th.

    Reading Homework - Week of 1/18/24:

    • We will have our Spelling/Word Work test on Thurs., 1/18, which was scheduled for last week. Please make sure your child reviews the words.

    Reading Homework - Week of 1/3/24:

    • We do not have any formal homework this week. We're easing back into things and reviewing. If your child was absent before Christmas, please make sure they have completed Activity 5.2. We will be listening to chapters 6-8 again this week and I am giving students a chance to look back over the comprehension questions from Activity 5.2 again. This will be taken up Fri., 1/5.
    • The next Spelling/Word Work test will be next Fri., 1/12. The list of words will be sent home Mon., 1/8.
    • There will be a Voc. Test on the words highlighted in the glossary of the Activity Book. This test will be next Thurs., 1/11.

    Reading Homework - Week of 12/4/23:

    • Students will be taking the AimsWeb MOY assessment this Tuesday. Please encourage your child to do his or her very best on this assessment.
    • There will be no Spelling/Word Work tests until the new year.
    • Students will take a "Cold Read" Test on Friday. This will be the LAST GOLD assessment for this 9-weeks.
    • If your child doesn't finish classwork assignments or if they are absent, they will ned to finish work during WIN time, or they will need to finish at home. All work is due Fri.

    • We will be starting a new unit this week, Unit 4 - Don Quixote. Students last year absolutely loved this unit! Homework for this week is Activity 2.2. This will be due Fri.
    • There will be a Spelling/Word Work Test on Fri., 12/1. The words should be in your child's red Reading Folder.
    • If your child doesn't finish classwork assignments or if they are absent, they will need to finish work during WIN time, or they will need to finish at home. All work is due on Fri.

    • We didn't quite finish our Codex Project last week, so we will finish up this week. The new due date is this Fri., 11/17. ALL PROJECTS MUST BE SUBMITTED BY FRIDAY!
    • We will have our Classroom Spelling Bee Thurs. Our Spelling/Word Work Test will be Fri., 11/17. Words should be in your child's red Reading Folder.

    • Students will be finishing their Gold Codex Project this week. Students may have a parent help edit the final Aztec and Inca paragraphs. All projects will need to be submitted by Thurs., 11/9.
    • The next Spelling/Word Work Test will be next Fri., 11/17. Students will get a copy of the words Mon., 11/6.
    • If your child doesn't finish classwork assignments or if they are absent, they will need to finish work during WIN time, or they will need to finish at home. All work is due on Thurs. this week.

    Reading Homework - Week of 10/30/23:

    • We will have a Spelling/Word Work Test Fri., 11/3. Students will need to study the 10 spelling words and they will need to know the definition of the root word tract. The study guide with words should be in your child's red Reading Folder. It's the bottom list.
    • There will be an End of Unit Gold Test this Thurs. and Fri., 11/2-11/3. This test will have a passage related to the content we've been studying. Students will read the passage and answer comprehension questions. Then there will be a language and morphology section. The language section will cover subjects and predicates, action verbs and linking verbs, words/phrases that compare and contrast, and the prefixes il-, ir-, inter-, and root word tract.
    • Students will be editing the final Aztec paragraph for their Codex Project. Student should have their final Aztec paragraph ready to turn in by Fri. They may have a parent review their rough draft to help make any final spelling/grammar edits.
    • If your child doesn't finish classwork assignments or if they are absent, they will need to finish work during WIN time, or they will need to finish at home. All work is due on Fri.

    • Students will need to have the final Maya paragraph for their Codex Project ready to turn in by this Fri. Parents, you may want to look over their paragraph in the Activity Book to double check spelling, grammar, etc. We will peer edit in class, but it's always good to have a parent review as well.
    • There will be a "Cold Read" and Voc. Test next Thurs., 10/26.
    • If you child doesn't finish a classwork assignment or if they are absent, they will need to finish work during WIN time, or they will need to finish at home. All work is due on Fri.

    Reading Homework - Week of 9/18/23:

    • We will be finishing Unit 1 this week on Personal Narratives. Students will be finishing their "Surprise Personal Narrative" by Fri. You may want to review your child's rough draft to help them with things like grammar, spelling, and to just make sure it makes sense. Please don't tell them how to totally rewrite their narrative. We're focusing on writing in 1st person using the word "I". We've been learning about how to use "showing details" to paint a better picture in the reader's mind of what's going on. We've also talked about strong verbs and adjectives. They are also required to write at least 2 pieces of dialogue in their narrative.
    • If your child doesn't finish a classwork assignment or if they are absent, they will need to finish work during WIN time or they will need to finish at home. All work is due on Fri.
    • Our CKLA BOY Assessment will be this week. Students will take the assessment over 3 days starting Wed., with the last part of the assessment on Fri. This assessment will be for a gold grade.

    • The "Cold Read" Test and Vocabulary Test will be on Fri., 9/8. Students received a homework sheet with words and definitions on one side and a crossword puzzle on the other side. This sheet is due Fri., 9/8.
    • We will continue Unit 1 Personal Narratives this week.
    • If your child doesn't finish a classwork assignment or if they are absent, they will need to finish work during WIN time or they will need to finish at home. All work is due on Fri.

    Reading Homework - Week of 8/28/23:

    • There will be a "Cold Read" test and vocabulary test next Fri., 9/8. The "Cold Read" test is a passage they will read and then answer comprehension questions. The vocabulary words/definitions will be given to students this week, so they will be able to start studying these words and definitions.
    • We will continue with Unit 1 Personal Narratives this week.
    • There will be no formal homework this week. However, if your child needs to complete a classwork assignment or if they have been absent, they will need to finish work during WIN time or they will need to finish at home. All work will be taken up on Fri.

    Reading Homework - Week of 8/21/23:

    • Students will be taking the Beginning of the Year AimsWeb assessment Wed. Please talk to your child about this assessment and how it is important that they read each question carefully and do their very best.
    • We will continue Unit 1 Personal Narratives this week.
    • There will be no formal homework this week. However, if your child needs to complete a classwork assignment and doesn't finish it during WIN time, they will need to finish it at home and have it ready to turn in by Fri.
