Hi, my name is Belinda Blackstone and this is my second year as a special education teacher at the VPA, grades K-12. This year, I'm also co-advising the VPA's National Honor Society. My teaching experiences range from special education resource and inclusion teacher at the elementary and intermediate level, to teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, and now virtual special education teacher. I started my career working with children as a pediatric audiologist at UAB Sparks Clinics. When it was time for my son to start elementary school, I decided to go into the classroom to teach. My son is now a senior in high school, and I have a daughter in 7th grade! I live in Pell City with my husband, our two children, and our two cats. When I'm not at work, I enjoy teaching Sunday School, watching my children play sports, relaxing on the pontoon, yoga, audio books, and binging Neflix. I love skinny lattes, chocolate covered peanuts, and fried okra! My favorite educational quote is by George Evans, "Every child can learn, just not on the same day, or in the same way." I look forward to working with our VPA students this year! If I can be of any assistance, please let me know.
