Amy Clayton

Warmest greetings! My name is Amy Clayton and I am a teacher of exceptional students in the small group setting at Ashville High School. I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Collaborative Education K-6 from Jacksonville State University. My Master's Degree in Collaborative Education 6-12 was also completed at Jacksonville State University. I have taught in the elementary, middle and high school settings. This is my eighth year of teaching students with special needs, but my tenth year as a teacher. I spent two years teaching non-disabled students in the private school setting.  This is my sixth year to have the privilege of teaching at Ashville High School, and so far I have truly enjoy every single day here! Ashville High School is my family.

My teaching philosophy is based first and foremost on loving and establishing a relationship with my students. Along with respecting their differences, tapping into their talents, and sharing my love for learning with them. I believe all people, of all backgrounds and intellectual abilities, have something to contribute to our society, and my students prove this to me each day. I use multi-sensory, theme based instruction in my classroom, as well as, a scientifically research based reading intervention program. I believe in a consistent, positive and respectful approach to making lasting, meaningful behavior changes, and educational gains.
