MAJ (R) Channing McGee
Major Channing McGee has been the Senior Army Instructor for the JROTC program at St Clair County High School since August 2018. Born and raised in Florence, Al, and graduated from Bradshaw High School in 1988. MAJ McGee enlisted in the Air Force in 1989. He was trained as an Avionics Guidance & Control Specialist and served in the 354th Tactical Fighter Wing at Myrtle Beach AFB, SC where he worked on A-10 aircraft and deployed to support Operation Desert Storm. He then attended the University of North Alabama for a year, before transferring to Auburn University where he was an Air Force ROTC Cadet and business major. While enrolled at Auburn University, he was enlisted in the Alabama Air National Guard with the 232nd Combat Communications Squadron as a Meteorological & Navigations Systems Specialist. After receiving his bachelor’s degree, he commissioned as a 2LT and attended the Aircraft Maintenance Officer Course. He was assigned as an aircraft maintenance officer in the 93d Air Control Wing at Robins AFB, Ga maintaining the E-8C Joint Surveillance & Target Attack Radar System (JSTARS). Next he was assigned at Travis AFB, Ca with the 60th Air Mobility Wing where he was a Sortie Generation Flight Commander maintaining C-5 and KC-10 aircraft and deployed twice in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and the Global War on Terrorism. He was then assigned as the Asst. Professor of Aerospace Studies and Admissions Officer at AFROTC Detachment 10 at the University of Alabama. After his assignment teaching AFROTC, he was accepted to the Blue-to-Green program and transferred into the US Army. After completing the Captain’s Career Course at Ft. Lee, Va, he became a Logistics Officer. His next assignment was at Ft. Lewis, Wa in the 593d Sustainment Brigade where he was a deployed Company Commander supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was then assigned to 3rd Army at Shaw AFB, SC as the Army Prepositioned Stocks (APS) Branch Chief. His last assignment was in the 167th Theater Sustainment Command (TSC) at Ft. McClellan, Al where he retired from the Army in 2014 and began teaching Army JROTC at Sheffield High School.
MAJ McGee’s awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, and the Meritorious Service Medal among others. He holds a B.S. in Business Management from Auburn University and a Masters in Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University where he graduated with distinction. MAJ McGee is also a licensed Real Estate Broker in Alabama and member of the Shoals Area Association of Realtors. He is also a lifetime member of the Auburn Alumni Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and Disabled American Veterans (DAV). MAJ McGee has been married to his wife, Rhiannon, since 2009 and they have a 7yr old son, 5yr old daughter and a dog. They enjoy traveling to new places and visiting Gulf Shores and Gatlinburg to relax. They also enjoy visiting family in his wife’s hometown of Flagstaff, Az.
