Mary Ellen Butterworth
Hi, I'm Mrs. Butterworth. Most kids like to call me Mrs. B. because Mrs. Butterworth is so long. I have been married for 25 years and have two children. Zac, who will be a Senior and Maggie, who is going into 10th grade this year. I love to go to the beach, swim, go for walks, run, read, wath Zac and Maggie do their "thing", spend time with my family, watch college sports and go shopping!
I strive to develop high quality lessons that meet the needs of each individual student. My main goal as a teacher is to help my students feel confident in their abilities as learners. I want your child to love school and feel successful, safe and loved every day! I not only want your child to learn to read, but learn to LOVE reading! I also believe in a strong home/school connection. You are the most important adult in your child’s life. That makes you an important port of your child’s educational team. I feel confident that your child will be successful in first grade if we work together. You know your child best and I welcome and value your input!!
This is my 28th year to teach at OES. I LOVE 1st graders It is my favorite grade to teach!! I love to help children learn to read and love books. I have a BS and MA in Elementary Education from UAB. I have been teaching at Odenville Elementary School for 28 years. I taught 4th grade for 8 years. I taught Reading Recovery/Intervention to Kindergarten - through second grade for 9 years. I have taught 1st grade for 10 years. I love teaching 1st grade! My favorite part of being a teacher is helping children accomplish something they thought they couldn't. My favorite children's book is Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good Very Bad Day by Judith Viorst. It always puts me in a good mood and I like to read it whether I'm happy or sad!
