Degrees and Certifications:

I received my Bachelor's Degree from Mobile College in 1984. I was trained as a Reading Recovery teacher in 1998. Reading Recovery is a highly effective reading intervention program that teaches students to use a variety of reading strategies. The program itself is no longer used in St. Clair County, but, by applying the stragies used in that program, I have been able to develop a highly effective reading intervention program here at OIS.

Mrs. Ruth Roberts

My name is Ruth Roberts and I live here in Odenville with my husband, Ken Roberts and our two dogs,  Charlie and Greta. Our children are both grown.  Eric is married to Alyssa, who is a reading teacher at a private school in Birmingham.  Eric works at the Shipt headquarters in Birmingham. He is also in the National Guard.  Eric and Alyssa are the parents of my wonderful grandson, Sawyer, who is almost two. Sawyer and I have had lots of fun this summer! Allison graduated from SCCHS in 2011 and Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina in 2015 and pharmacy school at the University of Tennessee in Memphis this year.  She also just got married to Witt McLeod and started her first pharmacy job in Memhis, Tennessee.

I love to read and to help students to love reading as they improve their reading skills.  I have been here at Odenville Intermediate since 2007 and love my job here! It is very rewarding to be able to help students to be better readers and therefore able to do better in all of their subjects.  I love teaching reading so much that I also tutor after school and during the summers.

Experience

I have been here at Odenville Intermediate since 2007. I taught first grade and Reading Recovery in Birmingham for 17 years and kindergarten and second grade in Texas and Arizona before that.
