Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Mary Harper

I am so excited this 2019-2020 school year! My name is Mrs. Mary Harper. I am excited to be teaching a fourth school year here at Odenville Middle School.  I am happily married to Mr. Matt Harper. In my free time I enjoy reading, movies, walking for exercise, meal prepping, listening to music (especially vinyl), going to concerts, traveling, finding teacher and grammar jokes and puns, and spending time with friends and my family. I am also the yearbook sponsor and the cheer sponsor/head coach at OMS.

My passion is teaching. I have worked in several other different types of professions, but teaching has been my absolute favorite!

Experience

I am thrilled to be teaching 6th grade English for yet another year! This is my fourth full year at OMS! Prior to working for OMS! I worked at Irondale Middle School in Jefferson County as an Exceptional Education Aide for a year and a half. Before Jefferson County I substitute taught in various schools around Hoover, Tuscaloosa, and Shelby County. I also taught as an 11th and 12th grade English teacher in Tuscaloosa City Schools in 2013-2014, but realized my heart lies with Middle School students.

  • Students were given Summer reading Project flyers (in the link below) during the first week of class in my ELA classes. I thoroughly went over the expectations and options for the students. This handout was also sent home in May with report cards, was posted on the OMS webpage under announcements, and was posted on the OMS Facebook Page. Students were encouraged to email me their projects if they had technical difficulties or printer problems at mary.harper@sccboe.org.

I would like all students to complete this assignment as it is worth 100 points. Late projects will be accepted for partial points.
