About the Teacher

Degrees and Certifications:

I earned my BA in English from University of Montevallo in 2009 and my Master’s degree in Secondary English Education from University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) in 2013. I have attended several hours of professional development over the past six years.

Mrs. Harper

I am so excited this 2020-2021 school year! My name is Mrs. Mary Harper. I am excited to be teaching a fifth school year here at Odenville Middle School, and sixth overall teaching.  I am happily married to Mr. Matt Harper. We have a sweet Maltese Shih Tzu named Petey. In my free time I enjoy reading, movies, walking for exercise, meal prepping, listening to music (especially vinyl), going to concerts, traveling, finding teacher and grammar jokes and puns, and spending time with friends and my family. I am also the cheer sponsor/head coach at OMS.

My passion is teaching. I have worked in several other different types of professions, but teaching has been my absolute favorite!

I am thrilled to be teaching 6th grade English for yet another year! This is my fifth full year at OMS! Prior to working for OMS I worked at Irondale Middle School in Jefferson County as an Exceptional Education Aide for a year and a half. Before Jefferson County I substitute taught in various schools around Hoover, Tuscaloosa, and Shelby County. I also taught as an 11th and 12th grade English teacher in Tuscaloosa City Schools in 2013-2014. It didn't take me long to realize my heart lies in working in Middle School.
