About the Teacher
Degrees and Certifications:
If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart. -Nelson Mandela
¡Hola y bienvenidos a mi clase! I am Lori Miller, and I am starting my first year with St Clair County teaching Spanish as well as a Cultural Anthropology elective. However, this is my twenty-second year teaching, having previously taught Spanish, Social Sciences, and ESL at schools elsewhere in North Alabama and in the Birmingham area.
I received a BS in History from UAB, then my MAE so that I could teach Social Sciences and Spanish. I have also attended study abroad programs with the University of Guadalajara in Guadalajara, Mexico and with the Cemanahuac School in Cuernavaca, Mexico.
Having studied the Social Sciences as well as Languages, I have indulged a love for the language and culture of the countries that I teach about, which I hope to pass on to the students that I teach.
If you need to speak with me, I encourage you to contact me through email. Between being in the classroom during the day and family responsibilities outside of the classroom, it is difficult to work in phone time. However, I am never far from a device and I check email frequently. It is the most effective method of communicating with me and the one most likely to get a timely and productive response.
