About the Teacher
Degrees and Certifications:
I graduated from the University of Alabama in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics Education. I earned my Masters Degree in 2006 from the University of Alabama, and I earned my Educational Specialist Degree in 2011, also from UA. I love math! ROLL TIDE!
I grew up in Southside, Alabama and currently reside in Odenville. I am proud to be a part of the community I teach in! I am married to SCCHS graduate Jason Mizzell. We have 2 children, Jackson (14) and Natalie (7).
I love my job, and my goal as a math teacher is to help make math accessible to all students. Math is necessary in order to be college and career ready! I strive to help my students become confident mathematicians who can communicate mathematically and make real world connections to the math they encounter in the classroom.
I believe that a huge part of a student's success comes from their support at home. I enjoy getting to know parents and strive to make the school home connection a good one. I can be reached via email anytime at email@example.com. Feel free to contact me with any concerns you may have.
I taught 8th grade math and Algebra I in Pell City at Duran Junior High School for 1 year. I am currently teaching my 16th year at SCCHS. I have taught many math courses including Algebra 1A, Algebra 1B, Pre AP Algebra 1, Geometry, Honors Geometry, Algebra II, Algebra II with Trigonometry, Algebraic Connections, Pre-Calculus, and AP Statistics. I am also a part time math professor at Jefferson State Community College 2 nights a week, the SGA advisor, and the SCCHS Varsity Cheer Coach.
Hybrid students will be supported by a facilitator and the classroom teacher. Classroom expectations and coursework will be shared via Microsoft Teams. The approved curriculum platform is APEX, however, Hybrid students may be required to complete tasks designated by the classroom teacher. All students are expected to prove mastery of each subject with grades assigned in order to be promoted to the next grade level.
IN EVENT OF VIRTUAL LEARNING or if you are a HYBRID STUDENT:
- We will be using APEX and AP Classroom(for AP Stats) this year in class. If you are a traditional student and we change to virtual at any point in the year we will continue to use APEX and AP Classroom.
- All communication and assignments will be done via Microsoft teams and via your student email. Please make sure you check BOTH regularly.
- Virtual assignments ARE mandatory and will be graded. In addition, deadlines are not flexible, and zeros will be given for incomplete work. If you have an extenuating circumstance and need an extension, please contact me ASAP!
Please see the appropriate syllabus for a list of supplies and course expectations. All students will recieve a printed copy the first day of class which will need to be signed and returned.
