My hobbies include reading and relaxing outdoors.

  • BEYOND THE CLASSROOM LEARNING

    READING:

    Fiction Book:  Read a fiction book of your choice.  (It does not have to be an AR book or come from our school library.  It can be an electronic book if you do not have access to any paper copies.)  After reading the book, write a summary.  Remember a summary of a fiction book should include the following:

    The title and author

    The theme

    The main characters

    The setting

    The plot (main events for the beginning, middle, and end of the book including the conflict, climax, and resolution)

    Nonfiction Book:  Read a nonfiction book of your choice.  (It does not have to be an AR book or come from our school library.  It can be an electronic book if you do not have access to any paper copies.)  After reading the book, write a summary.  Remember a summary of a nonfiction book should include the following:

    The title and author

    The text structure (description, sequence, compare/contrast, cause/effect, problem/solution)

    The main idea(s)

    The supporting details

    Personal Dictionary:  Students should also complete a Personal Dictionary assignment which is available at the school office.  Instructions are included in the assignment.

    Language:

    Use correct capitalization, punctuation, grammar, and spelling in the reading summaries.
