District Profile
St. Clair County is almost 200 years old, one of the oldest counties in the state. The county is steeped in history and tradition, yet it is progressive and constantly growing. Its population as of 2008 was around 80,000 people and in that same year it was named the fastest growing county by percentage in the state of Alabama. It covers 634 square miles of mountains and valleys and has six municipalities.
Its location is key to its growth as both Interstate 59 and Interstate 20 run through it. Because of this location and the work of the St. Clair County Economic Development Council, many businesses and industries are drawn to this area. Residents have the convenience of being located in a county that houses a community college campus, hospital, and numerous recreation opportunities.
The county includes populated new subdivisions as well as historic homes and farm lands- something for everyone’s living choices. St. Clair County School System has 16 community schools - one to open soon in the Margaret/Argo area- an Alternative School and a Career Tech Center. St. Clair County Schools Accreditation
St. Clair County Schools are in the process of Internal review by AdvancED Accreditation Standards. During the internal review, schools ask for feedback through surveys completed by stakeholders. Each school completes a self-assessment and creates an improvement plan based on the assessment. Schools submit narratives outlinining areas of strength, areas in need of improvement, and plans for sustaining strengths and implementation of improvement plans. Narratives must be accompanied by supporting evidence.
Following the internal review, an external review team will evaluate the narratives and evidence, site visits including classroom observations, and interviews with stakeholders. The external review team is made up of a team of approximately six AdvancED accreditation trained, professional educators from outside and within the state of Alabama. St. Clair County will be visited by the external review team during the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year.
